10 +1 reasons why you should consider a career in customer service right now
Customer service jobs have come a long way in the past few years: the rapidly growing sector is providing opportunities for working in interesting fields, possibilities for fast career advancement and great work conditions. Equally suitable for persons just starting their work life as well as for those that are returning to the workforce after a long break, or looking for a part time occupation, CSA jobs can be the perfect first step towards a rewarding career.
If you haven’t yet considered a career in customer service, here are ten plus one reasons for you to apply to one right now. Especially if you are a multilingual individual, speaking greek, english, and any other language, don’t wait another second (see reason #1)!
1. Demand is high: with Covid-19 and everything, companies all over are going no-contact like never before, meaning they are growing their customer service departments like never before. CSA jobs abound now, so no endless job searches and no lengthy wait times before employment starts. Especially for multilingual CSAs, positions open all the time, in all sorts of industries, since customer service centers of multinational companies come in Greece to serve their customers in many countries, manned with people from all over the world.
2. No need for a university degree or previous work experience: Customer service jobs vacancies do not require a degree or work experience to get hired – you won’t find here the usual “junior with a Master’s degree and six years of experience” positions. This makes them ideal for all those that are starting out, no matter their age, as well as those that are returning to work after a long break, such as moms, or even empty nesters. But this doesn’t mean they pay peanuts: Read on and you will be surprised!
3. Flexible, part time and remote work schedules: In CSA jobs, full time, usually rotating schedules is the norm, but other schedules are routinely available, including flexible, part time and, in some cases, even remote! This makes them ideal for moms looking to contribute to the household income, students studying towards a degree, or people taking care of other their family members.
4. Fulfilling career advancement opportunities: Customer service agents can quickly rise through the ranks to become team leaders, managers or even directors! Timeframes and processes vary, of course, among companies, but on average, a CSA can expect a promotion (and a raise) after only 12-18 months. [LINKTO Careers article].
5. A great work environment: well known international companies (yes, the ones you are thinking!) are establishing their customer service centers in Greece right now, bringing with them their company culture and environment. This means that, working for them, you get the best of both worlds: living in Greece, yet working for, and in, a European or U.S. company, in fun, modern, challenging, multicultural environments!
6. Training and support: CS agents get all the training and support they need to do their job and develop their work skills. From SaaS apps to negotiation skills and anything in between, all is provided by the companies that will hire you. Plus, there is constant support, as team leaders and support agents are always there to help you help customers!
7. Personal and career growth: CSA jobs are the perfect way to develop all sorts of soft and transferable skills that will be invaluable in your career, whether you choose to remain at customer service and advance there, or pursue other paths. Skills such as effective communication, efficient problem solving, win-win negotiation, troubleshooting, and many many more acquired, and honed, while working at a CSA position, can make any resume shine!
8. Sense of work ownership: in today’s interconnected world it is hard to find a job that gives a clear sense of ownership. Not so in customer service: here not only you become the face of the company, but you can also see how you contribute to its bottom line and how many people you actually help each day – giving you a rare sense of achievement, daily!
9. Work that stays at work: CSA work is not busywork, and sometimes is not easy either. But, it is a job you can actually log off from when the work day is done. And that means that, contrary to other tertiary sector jobs that stay with you throughout the rest of the day, once you clock out, you can forget about it, relax, recharge and focus on whatever else is important to you.
10. You actually help people: this is an often overlooked fact, but CS agents actually help people and this is something that generates a great sense of satisfaction! Whether it is resetting a router, returning a purchase, or selecting a suitable holiday package, people will come to you with an issue and you will be the one helping them solve it. It is no small feat when you think about it: you are making someone else’s life better, easier, maybe even happier! So kudos to you, for a job well done!
As if all these reasons are not enough to pursue a CSA job, we have one more: the salaries!
In Greece right now, multilingual customer service agents’ salaries start at €1300 gross for a full time position (this is double the minimum wage) – more if one of the languages you speak are in high demand, such as german. Plus, you get all the bonuses and benefits stipulated by greek law: social security contributions, Christmas, Easter and summer bonuses, annual leaves and overtime / out of regular working hours shifts pay!
